Escalante is a unique and special place that you could spend many lifetimes exploring.  Below you will find information about the natural history, activities and services found in and around Escalante.

Canyons

 

Flowing over 80 miles from the town of Escalante, Utah southeast to Lake Powell, the Escalante drainage is the premiere canyon playground. The canyons section describes the geography of the Escalante River with over 40 major tributaries complete with information about weather, wildlife, geology, paleontology, archaeology and history.

Camping

 

Enjoy the stars. Nothing beats sleeping out under the stars but there are some important things to consider. In the camping section we'll outline all the rules whether you are car camping or backcountry camping and provide some local tips, letting you in on some of our favorite places to camp.

Hiking

 

The contiguous Grand Staircase and Glen Canyon Recreation Area are a hiker's paradise. Adventures and explorations on foot are what the canyons are all about. In the hiking section, find out what you need to know for a really cool day hike or a backpacking adventure. Included are descriptions of selected day hikes and overnighters.
